17th May – BBQ and Plant Swap
This year the BBQ will take place, once again, at our greenhouses on West Street. This is a very pleasant occasion, meeting other allotment holders and swapping ideas. All you need to do is bring along what you want to eat and drink and something to sit on. The BBQ will be fired up at 5 pm ready for the cooking. We all grow more plants than we want, so bring along your spare plants and swap them with someone for something else.
W/C 25th May – Scarecrow Competition
This year our scarecrow competition is taking place during the late Spring Bank holiday period. This year the competition’s theme is just any scarecrow, so why not make a scarecrow with your children/grandchildren and have some fun doing it. Garden vouchers will be given to the winner and there will be certificates for all entries.
W/C 23rd June – Annual Allotment Competition
This competition is for the best allotment plot on each site. We also have an overall winner of the Best Plot on all Farnham Town Councils allotment sites. Later in this newsletter I will give you a brief idea of what the judges look for in an allotment plot.
19th July – Farnham Allotment Show
This year our allotment show will be held, once again, at the Maltings, in the Cellar Bar. Our show will take the usual format with prize giving by the Mayor at 4pm. The show is a bit of fun and is getting better year on year. The Show Schedule to follow shortly.
W/C 11th August – Tallest Sunflower Competition
This is a new competition introduced for this year. During the week commencing the 11th August we will come around and measure the sunflowers on all sites with the tallest one winning the prize.
W/C 20th October – Pumpkin Competition
Measuring will take place during this week and the pumpkin with the largest girth will be the winner.
We are rather low on numbers for our first Farnham Allotment holders visit, which has been arranged for June 9th.
We will have a guided tour of the vegetable and fruit areas of the RHS gardens at Wisley. This will be a great opportunity to pick up tips and ideas and discuss these with RHS experts.
If you haven’t applied to join the visit why not do so now. Contact Robert Green, FTC Allotment Liaison Committee chairman, by e-mail, email@example.com or phone 01252 794860, mobile 07981 230093.
It would be good to have a few more fellow allotment holders to join us.
